Ceramic is available in matte or gloss and offers a crisp, bright image with little or no variation. It is the favorite choice for photographs, and is the option that offers the boldest impact for paintings.
Matte has a somewhat muted appearance but is more scratch-resistant, whereas gloss offers the most brilliant image but tends to show scratches more readily. We therefore recommend matte for high use areas, such as behind the kitchen stove or in the shower. Gloss is recommended for lower use areas, such as behind a bar or as a framed wall hanging.
Images are transferred to tiles using dye that is baked under a strong coating at 400 degrees. Ceramic tiles will stand up to everyday indoor use, but are not recommended for outdoor installation. For outdoor applications, we recommend glass tiles.
